In a dental world shaped by ever more advanced techniques and exceptional aesthetic outcomes, everything can appear to run smoothly. At conferences, courses and across platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn, we are constantly shown impressive technical and aesthetic results involving implants, crowns, bridges and endodontics. These feel-good demonstration cases can make it seem as though nothing ever goes wrong and that every treatment produces a perfect result. Reality is different.

This course shows the other side of the story—the side that is rarely presented. We believe that failure and setbacks often provide the greatest learning opportunities; failure is, after all, the first step towards success. Sometimes the reason a treatment fails is clear. At other times, it remains a mystery.

Using real clinical cases, we will examine what went wrong, why it happened and which solutions may be available for complications and unexpected outcomes in modern dentistry.
